EUROPEAN AND INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS

HETIS leads or participates in cooperation projects across Europe and internationally. These are European cooperation or international solidarity projects, carried out in partnership with institutions, non-governmental organizations, and stakeholders in the education and training sectors.

2024

The EMPOWER HER Project – Training of Trainers with AMH – Morocco

As part of the EMPOWER HER program, the International Relations Department and the Department of Economic Development and Social Inclusion at HETIS co-designed and facilitated a capacity-building workshop alongside the AMH Group, held from September 18 to 26, 2024, in Casablanca.

This program aims to support and empower women with physical disabilities who wish to start their own businesses in the Casablanca region. It helps them achieve economic independence while contributing to the local economy. Supported by the DROSOS Foundation (Switzerland) and the SAFRAN Foundation (France), the program offers participants two months of entrepreneurship training, followed by one year of individualized support. The first cohort will start in mid-October 2024.

Structured around exchanges of best practices in professional integration, the training for AMH trainers, provided by HETIS, strengthened skills in training engineering and educational design. It also enabled HETIS to establish a new partnership with the southern Mediterranean, opening doors for future collaborations.

2021-2022

J-MED “Early Childhood & Disability”

Students in Early Childhood Education at HETIS and its partner, the INSTITUT TAHAR SEBTI in Casablanca, are working remotely to co-author a publication based on case studies of educational experiences with young children with disabilities. These case studies are analyzed, and intervention recommendations are developed by students, trainers, professionals, and parents from both shores of the Mediterranean.

This project, financially supported by the J-MED initiative of the INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION DEPARTMENT OF MONACO and the FRENCH MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS, addresses a pedagogical need for both institutions to consolidate knowledge, practical skills, and educational strategies related to supporting young children with disabilities.

2021

FAPAR: Training for Personal Care Assistants for People with Reduced Autonomy

HETIS is once again a partner of the EUROPEAN INSTITUTE FOR COOPERATION AND DEVELOPMENT (IECD) in the FAPAR project, funded by the INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION DEPARTMENT OF MONACO and the FRENCH DEVELOPMENT AGENCY (AFD). The FAPAR project supports a civil society organization, L’Heure Joyeuse, in establishing a training program in Casablanca for personal care services in both home and institutional settings. This includes the creation of a new profession: Personal Assistant for People with Reduced Autonomy (APAR), aimed at supporting individuals who are ill, elderly, dependent, or living with disabilities.

As part of this project, HETIS’s missions include:

  • Training engineering activities: development of the APAR job profile, competency framework, training curriculum, and certification framework.

  • Training sessions for trainers from L’Heure Joyeuse, to raise awareness about the profession and assist in delivering the training pathways, targeting young Moroccans from disadvantaged neighborhoods.

This project addresses Morocco’s urgent need to develop professional skills for supporting dependent individuals, particularly within the personal care services sector.

Due to the COVID-19 health crisis and Morocco’s border closures in early 2021, the initial training sessions had to be conducted remotely. The challenge of delivering an engaging and interactive five-day online training was successfully met.

2020

Health & Education for Children with Disabilities in Senegal

HETIS has committed to a multi-year international solidarity project, initiated with the financial support of the INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION DEPARTMENT OF MONACO and the SENEGAL MINISTRY OF HEALTH AND SOCIAL ACTION (MSAS).

This project aims to develop and structure the expertise of the Talibou DABO Center in the educational and paramedical care of children with disabilities, associated disorders, and multiple disabilities, with the goal of expanding this expertise throughout Senegal and the broader West African subregion.

HETIS’s responsibilities within this project include:

  • Technical support for project management

  • Training and professional development of teaching, educational, and paramedical staff

  • Training of future trainers, in preparation for the project’s second phase starting in 2023: the opening of a training institute within the Talibou DABO Center itself.

This project meets Senegal’s urgent need to incorporate the care of children with multiple disabilities into its social inclusion policies.

2019-2021

Care Givers

HETIS is Partner of the EUROPEAN INSTITUTE FOR CO-OPERATION AND DEVELOPMENT (IECD) in the CARE GIVERS Project (funded by GIZ Morocco).

The CARE GIVERS project supports the teaching teams of the Office de la Formation Professionnelle et de la Promotion du Travail (OFPPT)—Morocco’s public vocational-training authority—in launching and running new training streams in Rabat and Casablanca. These streams prepare learners for emerging occupations that provide in-home or institutional care to young children, dependent older adults, and persons with disabilities.

HETIS’s assignments

  • Complete training-system engineering: drafting the Occupational Profile, Competency Framework, Training Curriculum, Certification Framework, overall course architecture, and detailed syllabi.
  • Capacity-building for OFPPT trainers: awareness-raising about the new careers and support in delivering the training pathways, especially to disadvantaged youth (NEETs).

The project meets Morocco’s urgent need to professionalise support for dependent persons and to open self-employment opportunities in the personal-services sector.

2017

Support for Improving the Quality and Sustainability of Medico-Social Services in Morocco

Funded by the OCP Foundation and coordinated by Handicap International, this project engages HETIS to train disability-sector professionals on:

  • Multiple disabilities

  • Visual impairment

  • Down syndrome

The initiative helps Moroccan organisations that serve persons with disabilities to systematise their expertise and upskill their educational teams through continuing professional development.

2015-2016

SHARAKA Project

Within SHARAKA, HETIS provides training at Morocco’s National Agency for the Promotion of Employment and Skills (ANAPEC):

  • Training ANAPEC counsellors in intercultural communication

  • Training ANAPEC trainers on the same theme

HETIS also conducts an expert review of ANAPEC’s tools used with newly arrived sub-Saharan migrants, issuing recommendations for any necessary adjustments.

In 2017, under the same project, Expertise France commissioned HETIS to train ANAPEC counsellors in interview techniques.

The project addresses Morocco’s need to strengthen ANAPEC’s capacity to support sub-Saharan migrants professional integration in the country.
